DIY Chalkboard!

I've been reading a lot of DIY blogs lately and let me just tell you, I am completely inspired by some of these projects! Not to mention totally stoked to creep through all the thrift stores for hidden treasures! My first project is a chalkboard... seemed easy enough so after some lunch at Black Eyed Pea (YUM!) Steph and I headed to the local Goodwill. Our purchases included, the picture frame I turned into a chalkboard (marked for $4.99- talked 'em down to $2.99 BONUS!), a picture frame I am going to spray paint white for $.79, and a future DIY desk/vanity project for $19! It also came with a super creepy "poem" that may or may not have been a past suicide note.... haha! Steph scored some TALONS aka awesome roller blade for $19 and a cute pail she will use for her classroom for around $2 I think. SUCCESSFUL trip! After Goodwill, I dropped Steph off for a "sleep off your hangover" nap and headed to Lowes.
Here is the frame once I took out the glass and cardboard backing. I sandpapered the frame and spray painted it a deep red to match our kitchen.
Next, I got started on cleaning and painting the glass with chalkboard paint
PS that small thing of paint was $15! Hopefully it lasts a while HAHA! I used about 3 coats and applied with that small roller you see
Final project! I love it! We aren't really sure what we will write on it yet-- perhaps a menu (although we RARELY cook every day of every week), Bible verses, or maybe just random messages

**PS I'm currently blogging from VPS- Fort Walton Beach airport! We are in Florida for an ENTIRE week. My whole entire family is here and I'm super excited to spend some much needed quality time. The last time we vacayed as a complete family was when we went skiing in 2008-- SO SAD!! I'll keep you updates on our trip :)
